The Guardian’s Media Editor Michael Savage joins the show this week to talk about WPP’s research that indicates that creator content is now generating more advertising revenue than traditional material.
Historically this would have been regarded as UGC - user-generated content - but with creators generating huge revenues, who’s to say that they’re not professionals? Listening to The Rebooting Show this week, there was a good discussion about this too. The host, Brian Morrissey alongside fellow podcasters Peter Kafka and Ben Smith talked a lot about ‘alternative media’ vs ‘institutional media’ which seemed a better descriptor of what we’ve seen happening.
Our other guest, Message Hard’s Jake Warren talked about podcastings evolution, including how they put together their award winning show for Al Jazeera - True Crime Reports - which used significant AI video to help support the show’s story telling.
Also on the show the unbundling of Warner Brothers Discovery, as they announce they’re splitting in two again. Is it unfair to brand the global channels business as a ‘shit-co’?
Meanwhile Netflix’s march continues, announcing $1bn of investment in Spanish language content and Michael tells us about The Guardian’s new anonymous encrypted messaging service in their app.
