James Ball, Kate Bulkley and Phil Riley join the podcast
Lots of Radio 2 news this week as Scott Mills is announced as the new host of the Radio 2 Breakfast show from next year. They’ve also been busy getting ready to launch a Radio 2 oldies spin-off station but commercial radio isn’t happy.
The BBC want to launch Radio 1 Dance, Radio 1 Anthems and Radio 3 Unwind on DAB digital radio, they’re also keen to launch a Radio 2 spin-off, but Ofcom aren’t so sure. This week they repackaged their plans, but Phil Riley, CEO of competitor Boom Radio, doesn’t think it should go to air. He joins me on the podcast to talk about his concerns.
Guests James Ball (political editor of The New European) and media commentator Kate Bulkely analyse the latest saga in Tortoise’s proposed take over of The Observer - a planned strike. We also look at the National Audit Office’s challenge to BBC Studios to look more to IP. James thinks maybe they should just butt out.
Plus DMGT’s trying to work out a way to share AI revenue with publishers through its new investment Prorate. Does it have a chance, or has that boat already sailed?
All that plus a lookalikes quiz!
