This is The Media Club, a weekly podcast presented by Matt Deegan, made by Rethink Audio and supported by podcast marketing agency Podcast Discovery.
You might remember us from our old name - The Media Podcast - but we had a re-brand to make it more clear that the show and audience are together as one. Also the domain name was available.
The podcast is a topical look at the media - everything including TV, audio, the internet, publishers and more. Each week expert analysts and media practitioners join us to talk about the top media stories and work out what it means for the sector and people in it.
We’ve been around quite a long time, but just like Doctor Who we occasionally regenerate. Our first incarnation was as The Guardian’s Media Talk with hosts Matt Wells and later John Plunkett. The first one we can find is from 2006 here. When that closed in 2014 (last ep here) we emerged as an independent show, The Media Podcast presented by Olly Mann (our first ep here). Matt Deegan took over in October 2021 and we relaunched as The Media Club in September 2024.

About The Host - Matt Deegan
The host Matt Deegan, has been working in the media for over 20 years. He started his career working in radio for large radio groups, before co-founding the media consultancy Folder Media in 2007. In addition to consulting with a range of broadcasters he developed the digital radio multiplex business MuxCo and the children’s audio brand Fun Kids.
With Matt Hill, he created the British Podcast Awards which expanded to events in Australia and Ireland. They sold that business to Haymarket in 2022 and then worked together to create Podcast Discovery, a full-service podcast marketing agency.
